Abstract
The effects of thiamin terahydrofurfuyl disulfide(TTFD) on the detoxication of methyl mercury were determined in rats exposed to CH_3HgCI. Rats were injected i.p. with CH_3HgCI(4.94umol/kg/day, for 7 days)and later, were injected with TTFD for 7 or 21days(2mg/kg/day p.o.). The effect of TTFD were compared with D-penicillamine (DPA, 20mg/kg/day p.o.) and 2, 3-dimercaptopropanol(BAL, 15mg/kg/day in 2days, 9mg/kg/day in 3rd day and after 2mg/kg/day i.m.). Total mercury content in rats¢¥ organs was detected by quartz tube combustion gold amalgamation method. Recovery of total mercury was 95%.
The results were as follow ;
The measure of total mercury content in kidney wa higher than that of any other organ. TTFD reduced total mercury¢¥s content in brain(caused minamata disease), kidney, lun, heart and liver. Especially in liver TTFD was more effective agent than DPA and BAL. In other organs TTFD was less effective.
